STUDENT MATINEE SERIES
ENGAGE AND LEARN Atlantic’s Students & Educators and Atlantic for Kids programs offer educators the opportunity to engage students both in the theater and in the classroom through pre-show workshops, comprehensive study guides, educator preview nights, and student matinees.
CREATE YOUR OWN WORK Atlantic’s Staging Success program brings co-curricular, extracurricular, and curriculum based theater education programs into classrooms and schools throughout New York City. By offering in-school, after school, and community-based partnerships, students are empowered to self-actualize and share their unique creative voices through performance.
Atlantic is dedicated to teaching students to create their own work and to become artistic entrepreneurs. Atlantic’s education work is grounded in a distinct acting technique called Practical Aesthetics. Drawn from the teachings of Atlantic’s co-founders David Mamet and William H. Macy, this approach consists of a set of principles for both theater training and professional comportment. These principles create a specific thesis that’s especially powerful in arts education programs. Atlantic believes that anyone, regardless of background or experience, can become an artist if they’re willing to use their bravery, will, and common sense. The Atlantic Technique emphasizes self-reliance, professional work habits, and respect for and collaboration with others. Focusing on action and moment work, Atlantic students are given an empowering set of tools that relate to creative critical thinking, making strong and imaginative choices, and emotional investment. Atlantic teaches invaluable, repeatable skills that can be used to approach a variety of academic, personal, and professional challenges. Atlantic is committed to fostering the growth of the next generation of actors, artists, and storytellers who will expand and re-imagine contemporary theater.
