Why Give?

From the Desk of
Tony Award Winner Kelli O’Hara

Kelli O’Hara starred as Kirsten Arnesen in Atlantic’s 2023 world premiere musical Days of Wine and Roses (Craig Lucas, Adam Guettel), where she and costar Brian d’Arcy James (Joe Clay) were universally lauded: acclaimed as “the best they’ve ever been” (TheaterMania), “fill[ing] the old Gothic parish house with glorious sound,” (The New York Times) and sounding “like nothing else in the theater” (The Wrap).

Dear Friends of Atlantic,

Here on the east coast, there is a chill in the air.  As the season turns and winter settles in, I find myself leaning into the warmth of what matters most…my family, the time we spend together, and the unmistakable feeling of being home.

My profession takes me all over the map, but in every city and in every season, I have rarely found a home-away-from-home quite like Atlantic Theater Company. In 2023, I had the great fortune to be a part of Craig Lucas’ and Adam Guettel’s extraordinary Days of Wine and Roses, directed by Michael Greif at Atlantic’s Linda Gross Theater.  In that very special space, during those magical hours, and even though it was summer, I felt a different sort of chill.  A frisson.  So I leaned into the friends who became family, the warmth of the team, and our work felt like play.

If you’re reading this letter, it’s very likely that Atlantic is a special place for you, too. And if you love theater like I do, then you probably already know the tremendous effort it takes for new works to blossom. But at Atlantic, every person is working to make sure this incredible art can grow, even in the most challenging climate–and the stories here are told with you in mind.

So wherever you call home, please know there’s another one waiting for you, right here in Chelsea: Atlantic Theater Company is here to connect you with great works, remarkable storytellers, and engaged communities.  Your gift to Atlantic in any amount not only makes a critical difference, but it means the world to me and this entire theatrical family.

Sincerely,
